Rock, Paper, Pirate : The Royal Cup : Long Beach

The Royal Cup Coffee House presents Rock, Paper, Pirate, an art exhibit featuring three local artists, each working in a different media. The show will run from December 1 through the 31st, with an artist’s reception taking place taking place Saturday December 10 from 7-9 pm. The event is free and open to all. The show can be viewed Monday through Saturday, 6 am to 10 pm and 7 am to 9 pm on Sundays. The Royal Cup is located at 994 Redondo Avenue, Long Beach. 562.987.1027

STONE: Peter Dopulos is a sculptor working in limestone, alabaster and marble and his work explores the expressive qualities of stone. Unusual in this day and age of instant gratification and power tools, each of the artist’s pieces is handmade using age-old, traditional stone carving tools; these are simple instruments that have not changed in two thousand years. www.nomadcircus.com

PAPER: Barbara Holbrook’s work focuses on the everyday beauty one can find in the garden. Her works focus upon the fleeting moments of beauty, such as a flower come into full bloom, or the industry of a solitary bee in search of nectar. PIRATE: Meghan “Candy” McMahon works with acrylic on canvas, her palette full of raucous colors and vivid imagery. Inspired by the underground world of Low Brow art and her own passion for animation, her paintings take us through a ribald, imagined world of piracy; one that includes beautiful mermaids, drunken parrots and betrothed brigands.
